Planika linear bioethanol fireplace in a white living room

Bioethanol fireplaces

Bioethanol fireplaces.

A real flame without a chimney, gas supply or flue, so a fire can go almost anywhere, including a media wall.

Bioethanol fireplaces

A living flame, wherever you want it.

A bioethanol fireplace burns liquid bioethanol to produce a real, dancing flame. It needs no chimney, gas pipe or flue, so it can be built into a media wall, a room divider or a new extension.

We work with Planika, a Polish fireplace maker whose automatic burners use what it calls BEV technology. Fuel is pumped into the combustion chamber and vaporised before burning, and the whole process is controlled automatically.

Planika’s automatic models include safety sensors that monitor temperature and fuel and switch the fire off if something is wrong. The sensors vary by model, and we explain them for the one you choose.

Good to know

Worth checking before you decide.

Room size and ventilation

Each fire has minimum room size and ventilation requirements set by its maker. We check these against your room before recommending a model.

Heat output

Bioethanol fires add warmth and atmosphere, but they are not usually a home’s main heating.

Electric alternatives

If you prefer no fuel at all, British Fires electric fires give a realistic flame effect at the flick of a switch.

Do bioethanol fireplaces need a chimney?

No. Bioethanol fireplaces do not need a chimney, flue or gas supply. Each model does have room size and ventilation requirements, which we check for your room.

Are bioethanol fireplaces safe?

Installed and used as the maker instructs, yes. Planika’s automatic burners are electronically controlled and include safety sensors that switch the fire off if they detect a problem.

Can a bioethanol fire go in a media wall?

Yes, many of our media walls include one. We design the wall around the fire maker’s installation instructions.

Bioethanol or electric fire: which is better?

Bioethanol gives a real flame. Electric fires give a realistic flame effect with no fuel to refill. We offer both, from Planika and British Fires.
